Analysis

The topic that I found most interesting in the reading this week is when Valenti talks about women not having full access to their reproductive rights. I had no idea how long the argument about whether or not women should have the decision to get abortions, and use birth control. In my opinion I think it’s horrible that the government would try to control women when our society is already male dominated. This in a way is saying in a way that men will control women no matter how much progress women make. Although I don’t believe in abortions myself, If a mother feels that she is not ready for a child or family is not financially stable to bring another life into the world or just don’t want the child. They should have the right to decide by themselves and or with their spouse if they want to have one or not.
The same guidelines should apply for those mothers who would like to place their teenage daughters on birth control because they think they are sexually active. With the teenage pregnancy rate being so high why does the government want to take this away? Valent and I thoughts are similar; we both think it’s real dumb that the government is trying to take both options to prevent early pregnancy away. Those that are trying to take these away need to think about the result of taking these away like increase in pregnancy rate. this mean more mothers giving up there children for adoption because of their family's cannot support the baby. For example i know someone that has had a child at an early age and i'm pretty sure their parents would be upset if they couldn't get birth control .

Writing assignment

In my argument I am discussing the word nigger, and how it’s used differently by different individuals. Most people today feel that this word is impropriate especially to elders of the African American community. The thing that makes this argument so intense is that African Americans were enslaved at a time in the United States and the word nigger was used to abuse the slaves mentally along with other abuse. Many African Americans view this word not only as disrespectful, but something that is a constant reminder of suffering and hardship they went through. Also you have the young generation of African Americans that uses this word as a greeting among family and friends. Some of the research I’m choosing for this paper is going that talk about how the word is used and seen in a vulgar way. When I look up this information I want to choose articles that will explain the multiple ways the word is used as well. The sources that I choose to use for this paper will bring a great deal of support and foundation to my argument. It will let the reader know why people see this word as degrading and think that it should not even exist in any person’s vocabulary. It will also explain to the reader why the word has become so common to not only African American youth but youth from all ethnic backgrounds.

About Me

Hello I am Joshua Haynes, I am the third oldest of a family of five. I am 18 years of age, and I enjoy playing sports and playing Xbox 360. I was born and raised on the north side of St.Louis, Missouri. My past experiences with reading and writing have not been all so memorable. I enjoyed reading until I reached the age of 10, which is when I began middle school. I lost interest in reading because we were expected to read aloud in class and this did not make the reading process and easier. I have always enjoyed writing, no matter if it was school work or just writing in a journal.
Me as a reader I enjoy reading only if the book or material I’m reading is of my interest. It must be some type of adventure, mystery, or sports book. If I have an idea or grasp of the topic I am writing about this process is usually not that hard for me. My strengths as a reader and writer are I can get a clear understanding of most material I read, and I give great details when I write about a topic. My weaknesses as a reader and writer are I can get distracted easily if the material I’m reading about is uninteresting, and writing conclusions for my academic papers is a challenging process for me. My ability to get distracted easily when reading intimidates and excites me, because it just makes me want to reach my full potential in this subject
